Age: 41 years old.
Hometown: Nuneaton
Occupation: Teacher
Married: Married with two children, Matthew and Laura.
Most memorable day: Catching my first Barbel. It was from
the river Severn and I thought it must be about 15lb when I first
hooked it. I was only using light float tackle and I began to think
I was never going to land this monster on the end of my line. It
weighed 5lb 1oz!
Achievements in regards to barbel fishing: Being asked to
take over the Junior section of the Barbel Society seems pretty
special at the minute. I just hope I am able to do it justice.
Favourite Method: It may not be a great Barbel catching
method, but I love trotting a stick float down a river.
Favourite Venue/ river: The Dove is a special river, but
if I need to pick one, I have to say I love the upper Severn. I
watched my Dad and my son both catch their first Barbel from there,
as well as it having provided me with my first double.
Achievements that may be relevant: I have caught a few nice
fish from different rivers, and it is great to be able to look back
on that, but I always think that if I can get a child interested
in fishing, that is something that will stay with them forever.
What's The future for you and barbel fishing?: I want to
try to get the junior section of the Barbel Society to grow to at
least treble it's current size. I know that Steve Pope talks about
getting the Society deeper involved with conservation matters, and
what better way to start than with education of the young anglers
of today.
